Travel to Hungary

Poised at Europe’s centre, Hungary’s well-served by a handy web of transport links from abroad. The main international airport is Budapest Liszt Ferenc Airport.

Budapest’s linked to 15 European capitals by train, directly or indirectly. Its home to three main railway stations, from which Express and InterCity trains lead to all the country’s main tourist regions. To see train timetable click here.

In case you travel by plane

Public transport from the airport to the city

The Liszt Ferenc Budapest Airport is located within the boundary of Budapest, 16 km from the City eastwards.

The direct bus service between the inner city (Deák Ferenc tér) and the airport is bus 100E that work from 04:00 am to 23.30 pm. The ticket for this bus costs 900 HUF.
Passengers may get off the bus going to Deák Ferenc tér at Kálvin tér and at Astoria. Bus 100E going to the airport only stops at Kálvin tér, but the first two in the morning will also stop at the Astoria M bus stop.

All kind of tickets and passes for public transportation are available at the airport from the local service provider’s (BKK Zrt.) customer service points, from ticket machines or at newsagents’ shops. For local tickets and passes visit the official website of Budapest transportation.

Public transport from the airport to the city

Taxi transport from the airport to the city

The official taxi company is called “Főtaxi” that operates cabs from the airport to the city centre. It is easy to identify them by their logo. “Főtaxi” has a desk located at the exits at Terminals 2A and 2B where you can arrange your taxi.
The cost of the taxi from the airport to Rényi Institute should be around 8.000 HUF or 26-30 EUR, depending on traffic. In these taxis you can also pay in euros or by card.

Other options

There are also several other taxi companies operating at the airport, so you can choose what is the most fitted for you but the prices will be the same as mentioned above. Please be aware of exposing yourself at risk by using non-regulated taxi service providers soliciting at the terminal buildings.

Airport Shuttle Service: miniBUD

The miniBUD airport shuttle collect passengers at the airport and takes each of them to their hotel, so this takes a bit longer than taxi.

The fee must be paid concurrently with the reservation, by credit card or you can pay in cash at the sales points located at the arrival level of the airport.

Visa Information

Hungary is a member of the Schengen Area, and applies the Schengen legislation in full. The entry formalities for Hungary vary according to the country of origin. All visitors entering Hungary must possess a valid passport or a valid picture ID in some cases.

Citizens of the EU/EEA member states and of the following countries may travel to Hungary without a visa: Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Salvador, San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, USA, Uruguay, Venezuela.

Entry visa can be obtained at any Hungarian embassy, consulate, and in some cases at border crossing points. Please check the current visa requirements on Portal of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Letter of Invitation

AnMath organizers will only issue a Letter of Invitation to the following verified conference participants:

  • Conference Speakers
  • Conference Attendees

All conference attendees who seek a Letter of Invitation must register for the conference first before a Letter of Invitation will be issued.

Letters of Invitation will be emailed as a PDF document. Print copies will be mailed upon conference attendee's request by regular post only.

It is your responsibility to get the Visa. AnMath organizers cannot contact or intervene with any Hungarian Embassy or Consulate office abroad on your behalf so please begin your visa application process as soon as you determine that you want to attend the conference.
